Rea Gopane reveals he faced no repercussions after his remarks about Bonang
Former podcaster turned DJ, Rea Gopane, recently opened up about his infamous dispute with renowned media figure Bonang Matheba.
During an interview on the Nine8o Network podcast, Rea revisited the 2022 controversy sparked by his public accusations involving Bonang and her late partner, AKA.
These statements triggered legal proceedings, with Bonang reportedly initiating a R500,000 lawsuit, alongside demands for a formal apology and a public retraction.
Reflecting on the incident, Rea conceded that his comments were inappropriate but insisted he stands by his actions without regret.
“I don’t regret it. If I found myself in the same situation again-same place, same time, same age-I would repeat my actions,” he asserted.
He also admitted, “I was wrong; I shouldn’t have spoken that way about anyone.”
Rea suggested the controversy was exaggerated, stating, “It escalated far beyond what it should have because she added fuel to the fire.”
He further described his behavior as motivated by a desire for attention, clarifying that the fallout was less severe than public perception suggested.
“Outwardly, it seemed like I was going through a lot, but behind the scenes, nothing significant happened. There were no real consequences,” he explained.
Regarding the lawsuit, Rea claimed he never paid the R500,000 fine, revealing, “I still haven’t paid. The judge dismissed the case after I filed for unemployment.”
[NO REPERCUSSIONS?]😳
“To the public, it looked like I was in deep trouble, but privately, NOTHING really came of it”🤣
