In the early hours of Sunday, shortly after 6 a.m., a devastating shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, resulted in the deaths of eight children ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old. Local law enforcement officials reported that the individual suspected of carrying out the attack was subsequently killed by police during a high-speed pursuit.

Christopher Bordelon, a representative for the Shreveport Police Department, revealed that some of the young victims were family members of the suspected assailant. Authorities confirmed that the total number of people shot in the incident reached at least ten, though details regarding the condition of those who survived have not been disclosed.

Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly commandeered a vehicle to flee the scene. The police engaged in a chase that ended when officers discharged their weapons at the vehicle, resulting in the suspect’s death, according to Bordelon.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the event as “an unprecedented tragedy, possibly the most harrowing our community has ever faced.”
